Itinerary

Your adventure begins upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where you’ll be greeted and transferred to your hotel in Moshi. After settling in, your guide will conduct a thorough briefing, covering the trek’s details and ensuring your gear is ready for the journey ahead. Spend the evening relaxing, enjoying the hotel’s amenities, and resting for the exciting days to come.

After an early breakfast, you’ll drive to Marangu Gate, the starting point of your climb. Following registration with the park authorities, your trek begins with a scenic hike through lush rainforests filled with vibrant flora and occasional wildlife sightings. The trail gradually ascends, leading you to Mandara Hut, where you’ll spend your first night on the mountain, surrounded by the sounds of the jungle.

Leaving the rainforest behind, the landscape transitions into open moorland dotted with giant heather and unique alpine vegetation. The hike to Horombo Hut takes approximately five to six hours, offering stunning views of Kibo Peak along the way. Upon arrival, you’ll have time to rest, enjoy a warm meal, and acclimatize to the increasing altitude.

To optimize your body’s adjustment to the altitude, today includes a short but rewarding hike to Zebra Rocks, named for their distinctive striped appearance. This excursion not only aids acclimatization but also provides breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding terrain. Afterward, you’ll return to Horombo Hut for another night of rest and preparation for the higher altitudes ahead.

The journey continues as you traverse the stark yet striking alpine desert, a dramatic landscape that leads to Kibo Hut, your base camp for the summit push. The five to six-hour trek is challenging but rewarding, with ever-expanding views of the mountain’s rugged beauty. An early dinner and rest are essential, as you’ll need all your energy for the midnight ascent.

Under the cover of darkness, your group will set out on the most demanding yet exhilarating part of the climb. The steep ascent to Gilman’s Point is a test of endurance, but the sight of the sunrise over the African plains makes every step worthwhile. From there, a final push takes you to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating your achievement and capturing unforgettable photos, you’ll descend back to Horombo Hut for a well-deserved rest.

The last leg of your journey involves a steady descent through the moorland and rainforest back to Marangu Gate, where you’ll receive your official summit certificate. A vehicle will then take you back to Moshi, where you can unwind, share stories with fellow climbers, and celebrate your incredible accomplishment with a hearty meal.

After breakfast, we’ll transfer you to the airport for your onward journey. Many climbers choose to extend their Tanzanian adventure with a wildlife safari or beach relaxation in Zanzibar – we’d be happy to arrange these extensions for you.
